Introduction:

This 30-unit textbook is designed for beginner level learners of Chinese. Upon finishing the course, learners may grasp some 1,000 basic words, 200 sentence patterns and 3,000 useful sentences so that they will effectively communicate with Chinese people in day-to-day situations.

Compiled by professional TCFL (Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language) teachers from Peking University with Mr. Lv Bisong, a renowned TCFL expert, as the chief compiler, the textbook is the product of years of experience in practical teaching.

The 1,350-minute video program, a key audio-visual textbook project during the Tenth Five-year Plan period (2001-2005), contains episodes from the daily life of Chinese people, intriguing cultural phenomena and extensive background information.

The situational dialogs vividly reflect the life of average Chinese people. The “culture” element is embedded in the situations and conversations. The natural performance of famous actors and actresses makes the course even more enjoyable.

The choice of vocabulary and grammatical points is based on the Levels of Chinese Proficiency and Graded Syllabus. The textbook is designed in a graded and step-by-step manner, and key language points recur frequently throughout the book.

Hosted by an anchor with CCTV International, the program is free from complicated grammatical terminology. Language points are explained in the given context with simple and clear sentences so that learners may acquire proper expressions and use them naturally.

The audio materials of the textbook are prepared by top newsreaders from China National Radio and supervised by professional TCFL teachers.
